Trisco's Diary of the Trip to Melbourne:
Team NSW travels to Melbourne to play in the Indonesian Olympics. Basketball was held at Albert Park at the Melbourne Sports and Acquatic Centre (MSAC) over the weekend (24-25th of July) with teams from NSW, VIC (2), QLD, ACT, and SA competing to win the title of BEST STATE for Basketball.
I arrived in Melbourne the nite of the 23rd (Friday) and immediately went to the Hotel and proceded to Crown Casino where all the boys were at and we partied till about 4am.
The draw was a little dubious with NSW only playing 1 game and since losing that, was eliminated and not able to playoff in the finals. I don't actually know who did the draw, but they need to speak to the team that ran the Indomedia Cup 2004 (Denny/Alex/Sandra) and take some pointers.
We played against a team from Melbourne. The scores were locked at 27 all at half time. We played terrible in the 1st half allowing them easy baskets thanks to the number of fouls we accumulated sending them to the free throw line for every foul from 10 mins into the game.
With only 5 mins to go, I thought to myself, we are not going to lose this game without a fight, so a barrage of 3 pointers (4 to be exact) brought their lead from 15 to 3 going into the last 2 mins. But like the 1st half, we got too excited and thought we were going to win, and kept fouling them and sending them to the free throw line for every foul. We missed 8 free throws ourselves and they were the opportunities we needed to close out the game. We had the game and let it slip thru our fingers. I managed to finish with 22 pts (6-9 3 pt) but unfortunately it was not enough.
The most important thing was that we had fun together and friendships that we never had are now there and these will last forever. Just wait till 2006 for the next Indo Olympics held in QLD!
